Y\’all know I love a good lace front, but sometimes I just want something easy to throw on without the work of gel or glue or anything. That\’s where these little 30 dollar wigs from Amazon come in. I have a closet full of wigs from Amazon that have lasted several months. They\’re not perfect, but I definitely still get compliments on some units I\’ve had almost a year. By the end of this post, you\’ll be a wig pro, also!

How do you preserve synthetic wigs?

Synthetic wigs don\’t give us the luxury of being resilient like human hair wigs, so you have to be gentle with your unit:

  1. Only comb her when it\’s absolutely necessary to avoid tangles. And use a wig brush to gently detangle.
  2. Don\’t wash her every day; once every week is enough. Let her hang on a breathable wig stand to dry. Don\’t use a hair dryer!
  3. Style your unit mainly using your hands instead of combs and brushes. If you want curly hair, then buy a curly unit. If you want straight hair, buy a straight unit!
  4. Don\’t sleep in your wig.

Storing and caring for your wig is one of the most important things to keep her alive and looking her best!

How long will a synthetic wig last if you wear it every day?

I wanted to throw in this little tidbit of info for those of you who haven\’t taken the dive into cheap synthetics for the fear of it being a waste of money. The truth is, even the worst most tangled wig I\’ve ever bought still lasted me a couple months. And to say I spent less than the cost of a family meal on it, I\’m not mad at that!

I\’d say they can last you generally up to 6 months if you make sure to care for it. It can last longer if you don\’t wear it every day, of course.

Following the care tips above will help you prolong the life of your new unit to keep her looking fresh. She won\’t look \’first day out the bag\’ fresh, but she will get the job done for those grocery store runs or last minute nights out!

Ok, I messed up. How do I bring my synthetic wig back to life?

Accidents happen. I\’ve fallen asleep in my cheap wigs or literally thrown them off my head and into a basket to \’store it later\’. No matter how bad you think your synthetic wig has gotten, you can spring some life back into it! Here\’s how:

  1. Use a cheap, low sud shampoo (like this synthetic wig reviver). You can even use a dishwasher pod/detergent
  2. Use fabric softener as the conditioner. It revives the strands (and smells good as hell)
  3. Only use downward strokes when washing the wig
  4. Put extra softener on the tips if they are frizzy and matted
  5. Hang the hair to dry in the shower
  6. Use a clothes steamer and wig brush to comb and steam the unit into straight, sleek goodness. If you want curls, add flexi rods and then apply the steamer to set the curls. Remove the rods for nice curls!

Tip: don\’t put too many rods or it will be too curly and frizz up when you try to separate the curls

Help! My synthetic wig ends are HORRIBLE and I can\’t fix them. What do I do?

Cut that shit!

Sometimes all you can do is just redo the style and give it a little trim. I\’ve started off with a long wig that turned into a cute short bob a year after. The tips and tricks above help prolong the wig in its original state for a good while, but every synthetic wig has an end of life cycle, too. If you loved the color or feel of the unit, just give it a trim and keep it pushing!

All that\’s left to do is find the perfect wig on Amazon and try it out for yourself. Take it easy with your unit, and use gentle products.
