Rejuvenation After Hurricane Beryl: Rediscovering Productivity, Music, and Literature

Phew! Today felt like a short, quick day! It was much needed after the past 7 long days without power. My fellow Houstonians feel my pain. Hurricane Beryl came through last Monday and knocked out power for over 2 million people. Some people still don\’t have power yet, can you believe that?!

Thankfully, we have solar panels and a Tesla Powerwall that provided backup power to the house the entire time. There were a few cloudy days that had us worried, but everything managed to work out just fine.

Crazy how that happens.

Today\’s been my first \’normal\’ day since getting power back. I was able to dial into my work meetings without fear or the wifi dropping or something. The service sucked when the power was out. I could barely get out text messages!

Thankfully it was a quick and productive day. I was jamming out to Shinedown like the whole day. It was magical. I forgot how much I really, truly enjoy heavy rock, metal, etc. It reminded me of my normal self (whatever the hell that means). It felt good.

And last night I finished reading One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig and I really enjoyed it. It had just enough romance, some action, adventure, MAGIC, suspense and a little creepiness; all the things I love in a book. I may write a full review about the series later. I just started book 2 today, and it\’s already good.

I also picked back up on my diastasis recti exercises tonight. I bought this program yeeeears ago when I realized I had DR. It worked and helped me heal my gap. I haven\’t done it in a while but figured I would start it again. I noticed my belly looking like my DR was becoming an issue again. I hate that it never really \’heals forever\’. It\’s something I\’ll always need to make sure I\’m careful about to not strain my abs with any kind of movements.

All in all, today was pretty badass. I felt focused, driven, and slightly more energized than yesterday. I\’m still getting over a cold + allergy hell. I\’m congested like no other and generally feel fatigued, but I feel way better than I did a few days ago.

I\’ve already got tomorrow mapped out in my planner, so here\’s to another successful day (unless I wake and decide I\’m just not adulting)!

Ciao
