Ever wonder how to get your little one involved with the stories of the Bible but not scare them away into resenting it? Because same! I know so many people who have a love-hate relationship with God, because they felt like they were forced into it as a kid. I’m thankful that my mom allowed me the space to naturally grow and understand my own yearning for His presence. Now that I’m a mom, I understand wanting to guide my own children yet in a gentle way. That’s why I put together an adventure bible study guide for them, and thankfully, they love it!
What is an adventure bible?

I remember being friends with this really devout family in my apartment complex when I was kid, and they all had these Adventure Bibles. I never understood the real value in them until now that I’m a mom. Adventure Bibles are basically study bibles for kids. I got the Adventure Bible for Early readers for my kids. This version has:
- fun illustrations
- activities for the family
- awesome fun facts throughout
- broken out details about important characters in the bible
- helpful explanations at the beginning of each book to give context before reading
They come in different styles and colors. We got our kids the pink and blue one, which both came with an awesome imitation leather cover. Check out the bible that’s recommended by more Christian schools than other other bible for kids:
What religion is the adventure bible?
The Adventure Bible is a Christian bible written in the New International Reader’s Version (NIrV). I like this for my kids for its easy to understand verbiage with the accuracy of the NIV.
- Written at a third grade reading level (my 5 year old has no problem with it)
- Great for kids 6-10 years old
- Nice, big font for your early readers
- It’s even refreshing to see that version as an adult!
I have no complaints so far and really enjoy how easy it is for my kids to understand and connect with the Word.
How to use the adventure bible with a study guide
Like I said, my kids loved their bibles but were randomly turning to pages to read. They wanted some structure. One thing I’ve really learned as a parent is that kids actually do love structure. Check out my post about weekly schedules for kids during the summer. There is a free printable filled with activities to keep them entertained while you work or get a few minutes of peace.
And now you can add “Adventure Bible Study Time” to the schedule! There are a few things I’ve learned to help make bible study time enjoyable for everyone.
Keep it short and fun

Kids don’t want to be dragged through hours of reading or preaching. Keeping the daily readings short yet meaningful goes a long way. It also helps them retain information better by giving it to them in bite sizes. The whole ordeal of sitting and going through the guide takes my kids and me about 20-30 minutes.
Use themes for each day or week
I love a themed party, and kids love themes for anything really! I use 2 short passages per day that relate to the same overall theme or message for the day. Themes like courage or God’s protection are easy for kids to understand and remember as they go about their day. My free 30-day guide below has themes for each week, so you and your family can really focus on God’s message!
do short activities to reinforce the scripture
Arts and crafts work wonders with the bible. They know that when it’s time to read that it’s also time to do some sort of fun craft. Drawing pictures or writing short sentences help drive home the message of the Adventure Bible study guide’s verses.
encourage independence when searching for verses

The more your kids move around the bible, the more they’ll get used to it. When we first started, I was a lot more hands on with helping them find the verses. Now they know how to use the table of contents to find the book, using the big green numbers to find the chapters, and finally using the small numbers to find the verse. I congratulate and praise them with all their efforts in searching. We even have my son and daughter race to find the verses sometimes!
Make it part of your daily routine
Keeping it light and fun makes it easier to add Adventure Bible study time to your daily routine. Going through the guide earlier in the day allows your kids time to process what they’ve read and apply it to their day. It’s a few minutes out of each day that will stick with them for much longer!
